Frequently asked questions

Water supply, the historical drought response and where to find help.

Historical information, 2015–2016. The rules and program details below describe the original drought response. For requirements that apply today, visit Riverside Public Utilities’ drought status page.

Where does Riverside get its water?

The original FAQ identifies three local groundwater basins: Bunker Hill, Rialto-Colton and Riverside. Read more about the system on the our water system page, or visit RPU’s official water information.

Why did Riverside conserve when it had water in reserve?

The 2015 FAQ explained that local groundwater reserves reduced the immediate risk of a shortage, but that reduced rain and snow could create a longer-term risk. Conservation helped protect those reserves while supporting the statewide drought response.

What was Riverside’s conservation target in 2015?

The historical brochure states a cumulative 28% reduction compared with 2013, covering June 2015 through February 2016. The statewide urban conservation target was 25%.

How many days a week could customers water in 2015?

The 2015 schedule allowed up to three days a week from April through October and two days a week beginning in November, between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. The July 2016 homepage subsequently announced a return to Stage 1. See official guidance for today’s requirements.

Where can I find the original monthly results?

The conservation update includes the original monthly reports from July 2015 through February 2016.

Where can I report water waste?

Use the City of Riverside’s 311 service for reporting and city-service information.

Are the old rebates still available?

Program details change. Visit Riverside Public Utilities’ water rebates page for current availability and eligibility.

What if I am a Western Water customer?

Check the utility named on your water bill. Former Western Municipal Water District customers can find provider-specific guidance at Western Water.

Is this the current City of Riverside website?
